In Evanston, families say increasing activity by federal immigration enforcement agencies in public spaces—like near school grounds and soccer fields—is creating anxiety and trauma among children who witness or play “what-if” games about being “chased by ICE.”

Community groups and the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 are responding by bolstering protective measures and parent patrols to reassure families that schools and local public spaces remain safe.
